Omnichannel Retail and E-Commerce Save Consumers Time and Money and Reduce Emissions

Washington – A new report by CCIA explores how e-commerce and omnichannel retail options have transformed the way consumers shop, offering significant time and fuel savings, monetary benefits, and environmental advantages.

Important takeaways:

  • Home delivery e-commerce saves each rural consumer nearly $1000 and each urban consumes over $500 each year
  • In total, the savings per consumer from omnichannel shopping options like buy online, pick up in store are around $150 for rural consumers and around $90 for urban consumers each year
  • Emissions reductions are equivalent to taking hundreds of thousands of cars off the road annually if adopted at scale, leading to environmental benefits valued at over $1 billion each year.
The following quote may be attributed to Trevor Wagener, CCIA’s Chief Economist and Director of the Research Center:

“E-commerce and omnichannel options have revolutionized the shopping experience, offering consumers substantial time savings, financial benefits, and emissions reductions. These benefits are particularly large for rural consumers, who typically face higher time and travel costs to access brick-and-mortar store locations.”
