London – A review published by the Culture, Media and Sport Committee that examines the live music market recommends, among a range of other measures, that the UK government take immediate steps to ban the resale of concert tickets above face value.
The Computer & Communications Industry Association had responded to an earlier Government consultation on the issue by filing comments last year.
The following can be attributed to CCIA Senior Director and head of CCIA’s London office, Matthew Sinclair:
“The secondary market has a vital role giving fans a means to attend events they might have missed when tickets first went on sale and helping people who no longer need their tickets get a good deal. Draconian regulation, targeting only the secondary market, will only mean more tickets changing hands in informal settings without appropriate protection against fraud. It will leave fans with spare tickets no alternative but to take lousy offers from the companies that originally sold them. Ministers should address legitimate concerns with an open approach that encourages the original sellers of tickets, secondary marketplaces, and others involved to all do their bit to make buying and selling tickets a more fair and safe experience.”
