CCIA Files Comments on Canadian Algorithmic Pricing Regulations

Washington – In response to the Canadian Competition Bureau’s consultation regarding its Discussion Paper on Algorithmic Pricing and Competition, the Computer & Communications Industry Association provided comments today.

CCIA appreciates the Bureau’s initiative to explore how emerging technologies impact competitive dynamics and looks forward to contributing to the ongoing dialogue. CCIA’s comments emphasize the transformative role of AI, particularly generative AI, in making sophisticated pricing tools more accessible and fostering greater market competition.

The following can be attributed to CCIA’s Vice President of Global Competition and Regulatory Policy, Krisztian Katona:

“Algorithms provide procompetitive benefits and can enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve consumer welfare through dynamic and personalized pricing. While the Bureau’s Discussion Paper notes that there may be potential competition concerns associated with pricing algorithms, existing competition laws are best equipped to address these case-specific issues while avoiding the inadvertent stifling of procompetitive, pro-consumer benefits.”
