CCIA’s Response to Investigation of Brazil Digital Trade Barriers

Washington – Today, President Donald Trump announced forthcoming trade enforcement actions against Brazil, directing the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) to initiate a Section 301 investigation into Brazil’s digital trade barriers impeding U.S. digital exports to the market.  CCIA identified several existing and developing barriers to digital trade in Brazil in comments to USTR for the 2025 National Trade Estimate report.

The following can be attributed to CCIA President & CEO Matt Schruers:

“CCIA welcomes the attention of the administration toward Brazil’s barriers to U.S. digital exports through a deliberative Section 301 investigation into the harms caused by discriminatory treatment. Burdensome tariff regimes for U.S. exports to the country, and proposals for discriminatory platform regulations and network usage fees all threaten U.S. competitiveness. This is particularly so in such a significant market with notable growth potential for continued investments in the digital economy. We look forward to these actions bringing relief for industry operations in Brazil and bringing back open and fair trade between these two important partners.”
