Senate to Reintroduce Bill to Override Company Policies, Safety Measures on App Stores

Washington – Sens. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and others will reintroduce the Open App Markets Act (OAMA), which would force online app stores to loosen safety criteria and limit the ability of covered companies to regulate hate speech and misinformation through their terms of service. The Computer & Communications Industry Association has advocated for a competitive tech industry for more than 50 years.

The following can be attributed to Vice President, Federal Affairs, Brian McMillan.

“Bad actors pose an enduring threat to the users of digital goods and services, so businesses need flexibility to perform security, trust, and safety operations. OAMA would interfere with these efforts by limiting digital ecosystems’ ability to respond to content or ban apps that don’t meet their privacy or safety requirements.”
