CCIA Urges FCC to Rework Communications Supply Chain Proposal

Washington – The Computer & Communications Industry Association today urged the Federal Communications Commission to reconsider its proposed Third Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking concerning the communications equipment authorization program, warning that the current proposal could impose unworkable compliance obligations on consumers, small businesses, and online marketplaces without meaningfully advancing national security.

In a letter submitted ahead of the FCC’s July 22 Open Meeting, CCIA expressed support for the Commission’s goal of securing the communications supply chain while encouraging the agency to work with stakeholders to develop clear, practical compliance standards that reflect the realities of modern e-commerce.

The following quote may be attributed to CCIA’s President and CEO, Matt Schruers:

“The FCC can strengthen the communications supply chain without imposing unworkable obligations on consumers, small businesses, and online marketplaces. National security is best served by clear rules that target bad actors rather than impractically disrupting commerce.”
