CCIA UK Responds to UK Mobile Ecosystems Investigation

London – Competition regulators have announced they are investigating Apple and Google’s mobile ecosystems under the UK’s new digital markets regime. The Competition and Markets Authority would examine app store terms and practices including their relationships with developers.

The following can be attributed to CCIA Senior Director and head of CCIA’s London office Matthew Sinclair:

“Consumers want phones and apps that are easy to use and keep their data secure. They are not likely to welcome CMA interventions in mobile ecosystems if the regulator prioritises the interests of competitors instead of a safe and convenient user experience. The CMA needs to support the Government’s objectives of promoting innovation and growth and avoid overly broad and prescriptive requirements.”
