CCIA’s Statement Responding to DOJ Remedies Request in Google Search Case

Washington – The Department of Justice announced Tuesday it may ask a judge to force Google to divest parts of its business when its antitrust case against Google returns to court to consider remedies.

The Computer & Communications Industry Association has advocated for competition in the tech industry for more than 50 years, having aligned with the DOJ in past cases, including the IBM, AT&T and Microsoft matters.

The following can be attributed to CCIA President & CEO Matt Schruers:

“The DOJ’s proposed remedy framework in the Google Search case is a hodgepodge of structural and behavioral remedies, which goes far beyond Judge Mehta’s ruling. Any remedy should be narrowly tailored to address specific conduct, which in this case was a set of search distribution contracts. Instead, the proposed DOJ remedies would reshape numerous industries and products, which would harm consumers and innovation in these dynamic markets.”
