Tech Industry Praises House Judiciary Committee Approval Of Judicial Redress Act

Washington — The House Judiciary Committee swiftly considered and approved legislation that would give Europeans and citizens of other allies similar rights Americans have to appeal errors related to information held by federal agencies.  The Computer & Communications Industry Association and others in the technology industry have been actively supporting the Judicial Redress Act (H.R. 1428) since it was introduced in March, for which we thank Representatives Sensenbrenner and Conyers.

CCIA believes the Judicial Redress Act would help restore relations with trusted allies and trade partners.  The following can be attributed to President & CEO Ed Black:

“We thank Chairman Goodlatte and ranking member Conyers for expediting the passage of the Judicial Redress Act and we urge House and Senate leaders to bring this to a floor vote.  Europeans have asked for this measure ahead of final approval for a pending agreement with the U.S on law enforcement data transfers.  The Act offers a remedy for Europeans and others to correct inaccurate or improperly disclosed data stemming from government investigations.  This is a common principle.  It’s one U.S. citizens have in Europe, so the reciprocal extension of these civil judicial remedies is simply the right thing to do.  The measure has widespread support in the House and Senate and should be passed swiftly.”
