CCIA’s Space & Spectrum Policy Center was created to promote sensible policies to encourage new deployment and competition in satellite broadband.

The United States, as the leading nation in satellite launches, has fostered a strong space economy and recognized the future of space-based broadband with the establishment of the FCC’s Space Bureau in 2023.

Satellite constellations in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) can enable global broadband access, driving economic development in underserved areas. LEO constellations, combined with small ground terminals and ground networks, can offer a resilient infrastructure for high-speed, low-latency broadband in remote and rural areas.

While satellite broadband holds great promise, a supportive regulatory environment is essential to foster competition in this sector. Spectrum, a finite resource, requires careful management to meet current and future communication needs for both public and private sectors.
