Washington – The FCC has voted unanimously to expand unlicensed operations in the 6 GHz spectrum to allow a new class of unlicensed, higher-power 6 GHz devices. This means expanded broadband access for anything from virtual reality gaming to cruise ships to remote education uses and workforce training. .
In 2023, the FCC voted unanimously to propose expanding unlicensed use of the 6 GHz band “to foster unlicensed innovation.”
For more than three decades, the Computer & Communications Industry Association has supported expanded deployment of broadband to meet the growing demand for internet-based goods, services, and communications. CCIA submitted comments and reply comments supporting expanded use of the 6GHz band to support vital consumer products and promote efficient use of scarce spectrum resources.
The following can be attributed to Stephanie Joyce, Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff:
“The FCC should be commended for delivering on America’s shared goal of maximizing our use of wireless spectrum. This order will fuel the services that power gaming, education, healthcare, and workforce development. CCIA will continue to work with the Commission to continue building robust, resilient, and reliable connectivity to support the connected economy.”
