CCIA Joins Amicus Brief Asking Appeals Court to Protect App Store Security, Content Moderation

Washington –  The Computer & Communications Industry Association has joined an amicus brief with other tech trade associations in Epic’s case against Google’s app store, urging the appeals court to overturn the ruling.

Currently, an injunction from the court would force Google to distribute rival app stores through its Google Play Store, and to grant those rival app stores access to Google’s entire library of apps. The case sets a precedent that could have implications for both online security and a company’s ability to engage in content moderation.

The following can be attributed to CCIA’s Vice President of Global Competition and Regulatory Policy, Krisztian Katona:

“The injunction would significantly hinder competition in the mobile app store market, undermining the benefits of free competition for both consumers and developers, and potentially exposing them to a Wild West of untested and unmoderated app stores.”
