CCIA Welcomes Music Modernization Act Markup In Senate

Washington — The Senate Judiciary Committee plans to mark up the Music Modernization Act Thursday. The bill would update the licensing of music rights for the digital age. Senators are also considering provisions to ensure Congressional oversight if the Justice Department terminates long-standing consent decrees that aim to keep anti-competitive practices in the music sector in check.

The Computer & Communications Industry Association has supported balanced copyright policies and a competitive, modernized music licensing system fit for the digital age for more than 20 years. CCIA supports the Music Modernization Act, which passed the House unanimously in late April.

The following can be attributed to CCIA President & CEO Ed Black:

“This compromise measure makes important strides toward updating music licensing for the digital age. Complex and out-of-date licensing processes have been a barrier between music and fans for too long.”
