CCIA Welcomes EC Ancillary Copyright Consultation For All Stakeholders

Brussels – The European Commission has asked for public input on several copyright issues from whether people can take pictures of monuments and where they can share those photos to the role of publishers in the copyright value chain. The Computer & Communications Industry Association will analyze this further, but appreciates the European Commission offering this consultation and its willingness to listen to all stakeholders.

We hope this will be an opportunity for better, reasonable copyright policies to the benefit of those accessing information, the digital industries, authors and publishers themselves.

The following can be attributed to CCIA Vice President James Waterworth:

“CCIA has always advocated for a European copyright policy fit for the digital age and welcomes the public debate on the ancillary copyright for press publishers.“

“It is clear that copyright policies in Spain and Germany to hand money to press publishers failed as they hurt users, hurt publishers and hurt technology companies. We look forward to explaining this to the Commission.”

“European copyright policy should reflect the symbiotic relationship between publishers, and technology, as well as citizens’ freedom to access information and publish their own material online. Such an approach will benefit consumers and overall economic growth.”
