Consumer Groups, Tech Companies, CCIA Launch “Competify” Campaign

Washington — As federal officials face several important policy decisions that will have a significant impact on the affordability and availability of broadband, CCIA is proud to be a member of a coalition of industry and consumer groups supporting the “Competify” campaign. The campaign, aimed at encouraging consumer choice and policies that promote affordable broadband, launched today with both an informational website and full page ad in the New York Times.

For more than 40 years the Computer & Communications Industry Association has advocated for competition in the tech industry so that newer innovators and start-ups are not quashed by more powerful incumbents as they try to enter the marketplace. The following can be attributed to CCIA Vice President Dan O’Connor:

“CCIA is pleased to support the Competify campaign.  Broadband is the foundation of the 21st century economy.  Unfortunately, for most of the country, real competition is non-existent.  We urge the FCC to continue to lay the groundwork for a more competitive broadband market.  Where chokepoints exist, the Commission should take steps to curtail the abuse of incumbent market power.  With broadband being an essential input into the broader economy, upcoming FCC decisions will affect nearly all consumers and businesses.”
