Tech Trade Associations Ask Congress For Updated Trade Promotion Authority

Washington – CCIA signed onto a multi-association letter encouraging Congress to pass updated Trade Promotion Authority legislation that provides guidance to our trade negotiators on how to align U.S. trade priorities with the realities of the 21st century global commerce.

The following statement can be attributed to Ed Black, President and CEO of CCIA:

“Twenty-first century trade agreements need 21st Century Trade Promotion Authority.  With multiple historic trade negotiations underway, U.S. trade negotiators need TPA to advance trade negotiations, and the technology and Internet sectors need TPA to be reflective of the modern realities of a global economy.”

“Modern trade agreements must address issues like cross-border information flows, balanced intellectual property laws, intermediary liability protections, onerous customs obligations for small Internet merchants, and the incredibly rapid pace at which new products and services are brought to market.  Given that TPA was last updated over a decade ago, it is essential for Congress to modernize and pass a TPA for the information age.”
