Washington/Brussels – CCIA is pleased to welcome Christian Borggreen to its Brussels office and Bijan Madhani to its Washington office.
“The Internet economy and innovation face challenges from keeping the Internet open and nondiscriminatory to the misuse of intellectual property rules to try block newcomers from the marketplace. Countries around the world will benefit from a climate that allows the next innovation to thrive and Internet freedom to support collaboration, access to information and innovation. For more than four decades CCIA has been an advocate for the tech industry and open markets and these additions to our team will help us carry out this mission,” said CCIA President & CEO Ed Black.
Borggreen comes from the United States Mission to the European Union where he has worked for the last 4 years as Senior Policy Advisor, leading US Government advocacy on Internet issues. As well as excellent first hand knowledge of the issues of interest to our industry he has an excellent network in Brussels, Geneva and Washington DC.
As Director of International Digital Economy Policy, Borggreen will lead the office’s work on digital trade, Internet governance and a number of data-related areas, areas on which he will be able to make an immediate impact.
“Christian will continue to build on his already excellent network in international institutions and communities such as the WTO, the ITU, the IGF and OECD where he will lead our efforts,” said Black.
Madhani, a former Legal Fellow at CCIA, is returning to the team as Policy and Regulatory Counsel, focusing on privacy, surveillance, security and global Internet issues. He is a graduate of American University Law School and the University of California, Berkeley and has published several papers in the area of Cybersecurity, including one advocating for reforming the Electronic Communications Privacy Act.”
“Here in Washington, we are pleased to welcome Bijan back to CCIA. He brings a broad background, including experience with the Senate Judiciary Committee, where he covered cybersecurity and surveillance issues, and with the Department of Justice, PBS, and the Food and Drug Administration,” Black said.
“I am also glad to announce the promotion of Daniel O’Connor to Vice President, Public Policy. Dan has played an important role on a broad array of CCIA issues during his 9 year tenure including: antitrust, intellectual property, telecom, international trade and global Internet policy,” Black said.
O’Connor received his Master’s Degree in International Political Economy from the London School of Economics, and a B.S. in Policy Analysis and Management with a concentration in Consumer Economics from Cornell University.
