CCIA UK Statement Following App Store Updates, UK Regulators’ Concerns

London – Apple and Google announced commitments relating to their App Stores following concerns raised by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). The CMA said these commitments would come into effect starting in April and claimed they would “boost the UK’s app economy.”

The following can be attributed to CCIA Senior Director and head of CCIA’s London office Matthew Sinclair:

“Voluntary commitments can provide greater flexibility, and the commitments from Apple and Google are a positive sign that we can avoid overly prescriptive rules from the regulator. Greater flexibility means companies can implement changes without unnecessary impediments to innovation, risks to security, or otherwise worsening the quality of services and weakening the digital economy.”
