Brussels, BELGIUM — The Computer and Communications Industry Association welcomes the net neutrality guidelines put forward by BEREC. CCIA is a strong supporter of net neutrality and maintaining the Internet as an open platform that empowers consumers, fosters competition and serves as a catalyst for economic growth.
The guidelines will serve as a useful means to develop a common interpretation of the open Internet rules across the European Union. In this they will contribute to the building of a Digital Single Market.
The following statement may be attributed to CCIA Europe Vice President James Waterworth:
“BEREC is right to clarify that the regulations apply to providers of Internet access services and not to content and application providers or to websites.”
“Successful implementation will require national regulatory authorities to approach any complaints on a case-by-case basis. Whether conduct or particular programs constitute an infringement of the rules will depend on the specifics of the case and no assumptions should be made.”
