New CCIA Research Finds Generative AI Is the Fastest-Adopted Technology in History

A One-page PDF on the research can be accessed here

Washington – The Computer & Communications Industry Association Research Center today released its 2025 SPICE AI Report: Survey of Product Impact in the Connected Economy – Artificial Intelligence, offering one of the most comprehensive looks yet at how U.S. adults are adopting and using generative AI (GenAI) tools in both personal and professional contexts.

The findings show that generative AI is the most rapidly adopted general-purpose technology in history, with about three in five U.S. adults having used GenAI less than three years after its release. Adoption is accelerating across sectors, reshaping both consumer behavior and workplace productivity.

Daily GenAI use among all U.S. adults rose from 12% to 17% in just eight months, while two in five U.S. workers now use GenAI at work, reporting an average 15% productivity improvement. Among workers who use AI, daily use jumped from 21% to 31% between March and July 2025, a rapid uptick in integration within the workplace.

The following can be attributed to Trevor Wagener, Director of the Research Center & Chief Economist, CCIA:

“In under three years, generative AI has raced past the smartphone and the internet to become the fastest-adopted general-purpose technology in U.S. history. Americans like what they’re seeing, as 77% of AI users have a favorable impression, and sentiment becomes more positive over time.”
