Washington – The White House has released a framework for the trade deal with the European Union that will result in reduced tariffs. The agreement provides a process to remove unjustified barriers to digital trade – including foregoing proposed network usage fees requiring US tech companies to subsidise European telecommunications operators. This is one of numerous barriers the Computer & Communications Industry Association has identified impeding access to the European market.
CCIA has supported open markets for more than 50 years.
The following can be attributed to CCIA Vice President Jonathan McHale:
“Although details remain scarce, we are encouraged that the U.S. and EU have agreed to address digital trade barriers in their ongoing trade engagement. The Administration now has an important opportunity to mitigate barriers CCIA estimates cost U.S. firms up to nearly $100 billion a year.”
CCIA’s Research Center released a study today that calculated the annual cost of EU digital regulations on US companies.
