CCIA’s Response to DOJ’s Request for Remedies in its Google Search Case

Washington – The Department of Justice is planning to request a federal judge to force Google to divest its Chrome browser and separate Android from Search and Google Play, as reported by Bloomberg. The proposed measures would also include data licensing requirements and measures related to Google’s AI and Android systems.

The Computer & Communications Industry Association has advocated for competition in the tech industry for more than 50 years, having aligned with the DOJ in past cases, including the IBM, AT&T and Microsoft matters.

The following can be attributed to CCIA President & CEO Matt Schruers:

“The DOJ’s proposed remedies go far beyond Judge Mehta’s ruling. This mixed bag of structural and behavioral remedies would reshape numerous industries and products, harming consumers and innovation in these dynamic markets. We expect the court will review the findings and only consider remedies that are tailored to address the search distribution contracts that are at the center of this case.”
