New FTC Commissioners Expected to Start This Week

Washington – Now that the Senate has confirmed the new Republican Commissioners, former Virginia Solicitor General Andrew Ferguson and former Utah Solicitor General Melissa Holyoak are expected to take their seats this week on the five-member Federal Trade Commission. President Biden nominated the new Commissioners last summer to fill seats after the previous two Republican Commissioners stepped down amid broad criticism that Biden Administration leadership of the FTC was driving an agenda that had become politicized and out of step with traditional antitrust enforcement and policy.

The Computer & Communications Industry Association has advocated for policies that advance innovation and competition in the tech industry for over 50 years.

The following can be attributed to CCIA President & CEO Matt Schruers:

“Consumer-focused U.S. antitrust regulations have served the U.S. well, making its innovation and digital economy the envy of the world. We are encouraged to see a full slate of commissioners in place and urge the full Commission to pursue an enforcement agenda focused on advancing consumer welfare and consumer protection rather than political ends.”
