Brussels, BELGIUM — The European Commission President-elect, Ursula von der Leyen, announced the portfolio assignments of the designated European Commissioners today.
Margrethe Vestager (Denmark) will as Vice-President maintain her competition portfolio, but also coordinate most digital regulation. Sylvie Goulard (France) will take over the Internal Market portfolio, including industrial policies and the EU’s digital single market. Phil Hogan (Ireland) will take on the trade portfolio. Didier Reynders (Belgium) will handle Justice, while Ylva Johansson (Sweden) is assigned the Home Affairs portfolio. The Commissioner-designates should, upon approval by the European Parliament, take on their new assignments on the 1st November 2019.
