Strasbourg, France — The European Parliament today voted to confirm Ursula von der Leyen as the next President of the European Commission. President von der Leyen previously served in the German government in several ministerial roles, including as Minister of Defence. She will be the first woman to lead the EU’s executive arm.
Earlier today Commission President Ursula von der Leyen outlined her EU political priorities for the next five year term in a “guidance document”. The President pledged to present legislation on Artificial Intelligence within 100 days of taking office and to present a “Digital Services Act” to upgrade EU rules pertaining to “digital platforms, services and products.” On tax reform she called for an “international solution” while warning that “if by the end of 2020 there is still no global solution for a fair digital tax, the EU should act alone.”
CCIA has called for ambitious global tax reform, which doesn’t single out any sectors. We support smart, proportionate and evidence-based EU regulation to ensure Europeans can fully benefit from the digital transformation.
