Brussels, BELGIUM — The European Commission (EC) issued its “anti-terrorism package” today, which includes several EU actions to face “challenges posed by the use of encryption.” Proposed EU actions include “technical support measures, a new toolbox of techniques, and training, and proposes setting up a network of points of expertise.” The EC will on the one hand “support law enforcement and judicial authorities when they encounter encryption … without weakening encryption at a more general level.”
The Computer & Communications Industry Association is a longtime supporter of strong encryption.
