Washington – The Computer & Communications Industry Association filed follow up comments as the FCC seeks additional higher-band spectrum to maintain our edge in the race to 5G. Demand for mobile data is increasing at breakneck speed, so CCIA encouraged the FCC to act on the MVDDS petition, which represents one of the best opportunities the FCC has to facilitate the deployment of 5G by repurposing spectrum for mobile broadband.

“We appreciate Chairman Wheeler’s vision and commitment to expanding bandwidth to meet the growing demands of mobile internet use. This summer, the Commission set out to define the so-called ‘Spectrum Frontiers’ for 5G, but it must continue looking into higher-band spectrum to maintain our edge in the race to 5G. Mobile data traffic is expected to grow 53 percent by 2020, so the more the FCC can do to identify and meet this need with more bandwidth, the better for US growth and competitiveness.”
