CCIA Welcomes Appointment Of Roberto Viola As New Director-General

Brussels — The European Commission announced today that Roberto Viola will become the new Director-General of the European Commission’s Communications Networks, Content and Technology Directorate General on 1st September 2015. The Computer & Communications Industry Association looks forward to working with Director-General Viola in his important efforts to achieve a European Digital Single Market.

The following can be attributed to CCIA Europe Vice President James Waterworth:

“The Digital Single Market is rightly one of the top priorities of the European Commission. Mr. Viola has the necessary understanding of technology and political experience to make the right choices and to make the project a reality.”

“A rapidly digitising economy allows traditional and new businesses to reach customers, collaborate with colleagues and generate sales; it also ensures that public services can continue to be delivered while budgets are under pressure. Policymakers will face pressure from interest groups that would rather slow down this change and protect the past. Mr Viola understands this is not an option and is therefore an excellent choice to lead Europe into its digital future.”
