Reps. Markey, Boucher Trading Gavels

Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., and Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Va., have announced they are switching gavels on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Rep. Markey will leave as chairman of the Telecommunications and the Internet subcommittee to head the Energy and Environment Subcommittee with its former chair, Boucher, taking over the telecommunications subcommittee.

The following statement can be attributed to Ed Black, President and CEO of the Computer & Communications Industry Association:

“We applaud outgoing Chairman Markey for his consistent expertise and his commitment to good telecom policy. He understands tech issues and leaves big shoes to fill, but Chairman Boucher is more than qualified to fill them. Boucher has a deep understanding of how technology works. He has a history of fighting for increased broadband deployment, which matters to consumers, U.S. competitiveness in the global marketplace and our economy. We look forward to working with him for better telecom policy.”
