CCIA Response to Proposed Mexican Competition Reform

Washington – Following the constitutional reform that incorporated the Mexican competition authority (COFECE) into the Executive branch, the Mexican government released its proposal for the country’s new competition law, which includes the creation of a new competition authority: the National Antitrust Commission.

The Computer & Communications Industry Association has advocated for technology policy that advances competition and innovation for over 50 years.

The following can be attributed to CCIA President & CEO Matt Schruers:

“As Mexico considers further updates to its competition authority, policymakers should engage key stakeholders from industry and beyond to obtain input on how to most efficiently foster the competitive process and advance consumers’ welfare.

“It will be crucial for policymakers to consider the existing international agreements Mexico is a part of, particularly those with the U.S. and Canada, when devising reforms to the country’s competition regime.”
