Brussels, BELGIUM — The Computer & Communications Industry Association welcomes the second joint EU-U.S. Privacy Shield review which took place on Thursday and Friday this week.
The Privacy Shield framework allows companies to transfer personal data from the European Union to the United States while ensuring adequate protection of European citizens’ data.
This second annual review was an opportunity for the European Commission, Data Protection Authorities, and the U.S. Government to take stock of the progress made over the past year and discuss areas for further improvement.
Over the past months, the FTC has taken several enforcement measures to ensure that Privacy Shield certified companies meet their commitments. This adds up to recent positive developments, including the confirmation of Adam Klein, Jane Nitz, and Ed Felton as Members of the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, and the declassification of materials detailing the limits of intelligence and law enforcement access to European citizens’ data.
