Washington – In a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Grassley and Ranking Member Leahy, the leaders of a coalition of industry associations, including the Computer & Communications Industry Association, encouraged swift action on the Judicial Redress Act. The bill is considered to be a critical hurdle to two agreements with Europe that would have broad economic and law enforcement consequences if they are not resolved soon — a new Safe Harbor agreement for commercial data flows, and the Data Privacy and Protection Agreement for law enforcement-related data transfers.

“While it is worth noting the economic loss to both American and European companies if these agreements are not finalized, senators should look at the underlying principle involving key U.S. allies. This legislation would give Europeans the right to review and correct inaccurate information held about them by many federal agencies. Americans already have these rights in the EU and reciprocating with similar rules is both fair and necessary to restore trust.”
